The Yoga Shala.
practice. breath. stillness.
A boutique studio for those who want to study yoga as it was taught — with attention to alignment, breath, and the quiet that follows. Small group classes. Senior teachers. No mirrors, no music, no rush.
PRACTICES
Six Practices. One Lineage.
All classes draw from the classical traditions — Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Patanjali's eight limbs — adapted carefully for modern bodies and modern lives.
Iyengar Yoga
Precision and alignment. Use of props — straps, blocks, bolsters — to deepen each posture safely. For students of any age and ability.
Ashtanga Mysore
Self-led practice in the traditional Mysore-style format. The teacher gives adjustments and progressions one student at a time.
Vinyasa Flow
Breath-led sequencing. Strong, fluid, modern. A balanced flow with focus on transitions and core integrity.
Restorative & Yin
Long holds, full support, deep release. Ideal for stress, recovery, and the end of a hard week.
Pranayama & Meditation
Breathwork and seated meditation. 30 minutes of concentrated practice to reset the nervous system.
Private 1-on-1
Personalized practice for injuries, pre/post-natal, or focused asana refinement. Booked by appointment.
THE TEACHERS
Trained where the practice was preserved.
The Yoga Shala was founded by Sushma Reddy and Vikram Iyer — two senior practitioners who studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune and the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. Together they bring 30+ years of teaching to a single small studio on Road No. 10.
Classes are kept small — eight to twelve students — so every posture is observed, every breath is heard, and every adjustment is given by hand. We don't teach yoga as a workout. We teach it as a practice.
"Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind."
— Patanjali, Yoga Sutras 1.2

QUARTERLY RETREATS
Take the Practice Off the Mat.
Three to four times a year we close the studio and travel — to the hills, to the coast, to the forest. Small groups, deep practice, simple food.

STUDENTS
Reflections from the Mat.
Words from students who have been with the studio at least one year. Names withheld at their request.
"I came in with chronic lower back pain after years at a desk. Sushma worked with my body, not against it. Two years in, I'm pain-free and stronger than I was at 25."
Software architect · 6 years practicing
"The restorative class on Friday evenings has become non-negotiable. After a week of running a household and a startup, this is where I find quiet."
Mother of two · 3 years practicing
"I drive in from Bangalore for the Coorg retreats. Vikram's Mysore counts feel like learning the practice anew. There is no better Ashtanga teacher in South India."
